The daily news reports of unrighteous, oppressive and corrupt deeds among the citizenry being carried through the mass media coupled with his personal experiences in a morally decadent society stirred up the compassion in him. The vision for the formation of CRJ was inspired by a passion for a transformed society. It calls for a coordinated winnable war against corruption and all forms of wickedness in our society, relying on the supernatural power of the Almighty God.
It became a sharpened vision with the significant, creative contribution of his friends, Reverends Innocent Ubom (now Ubong) and Jimoh Kaseem.
The first successful meeting of like minded, fellow citizens was held in Lagos State on May 12, 1990. The Association known today as Citizens for Righteousness and Social Justice (CRJ) was born on that day and the membership has been growing since then. The organization was registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission in 1994.
Having realized that the natural inclination of man is to do more evil than good and this inclination is projected more in the society where injustice prevails, we seek to sensitize and encourage the upright citizens who will come together voluntarily and work selflessly through this association to bring about the desired changes in our society. There is a saying that “the only thing necessary for evil to prevail in any society is for the good people to do nothing.”
Every human government has the job of restraining evil, preserving order and promoting justice and these are not clerical or ecclesiastical functions but secular functions.
The development and display of exceptional, honest, and impeccable strength of character must form part of the personality traits of the upright person of faith and such will require the help of the Spirit of God.
Regeneration of life is a unique blessing of God provided through Christ Jesus for all mankind, which is essential for the development of peaceful, and harmonious relationships in a society.
The Great commission for believers is not only to evangelize individuals and build churches but to save nations and transform society.
The upright people of God are to be role models, promoting righteousness, justice, equity, mercy and love in the society.
The fear of God the Creator and the Supreme Judge of all is an essential foundation for a moral, principled behaviour necessary for the building of a more stable society and a great nation.
